Ultrafiltration (UF) Technology
Ultrafiltration is another crucial water purification technology.
UF membranes have pores larger than those in RO membranes, typically ranging from 0.001 to 0.1 microns.
This size allows the membrane to effectively remove larger particles such as bacteria, protozoa, colloids, and some viruses.
UF works by using a physical filtration process, where water is passed through the membrane under a certain pressure.

One of the significant advantages of ultrafiltration is that it can operate at relatively low pressures compared to RO, which makes it more energy – efficient.
Additionally, UF does not remove dissolved salts and most of the beneficial minerals from the water, ensuring that the water retains its natural balance.
UF technology is often used in applications where the primary concern is the removal of microbiological contaminants, such as in water treatment for rural areas or in pre – treatment stages for larger water purification systems.
